How to Get Out of a Rut: 5 Practical Tips

How to Get Out of a Rut: 5 Practical Tips

Life is the most amazing roller coaster of up and downs, but pushing against gravity is hard!

During the month of May I feel into a bit of a rut that just had me sinking deep. I had to pull myself out, and you can too! Here’s how:

1. WHAT HAPPENED?

Finding the root of your problems, whether it’s a situation, a person, or the weather, is extremely important to getting out of a dark place. Identifying the source can grant you freedom for many years to come from a situation or a person. What is your trigger?

2. FORGIVE YOURSELF!

For some reason it’s so much easy to forgive other people than ourselves. We beat our selves up for hours, days, and sometimes years before letting go of the past. Be kind enough to forgive yourself so you can move on.

3. SEPARATE THE REAL FROM THE FAKE.

Your thoughts are NOT facts. You get to choose whether or not your thought are genuine or made up. We often exaggerate our feelings in our minds to be larger than reality. Separate the facts in your life from the fiction.

4. GET YOU SOME FRIENDS

The last thing I want to do when I’m feeling down is to interact with people, BUT it the necessary to talk to friends. Although you might not feel comfortable talking to your friends about the situation, just being around genuine people will lift your spirits.

5. BE PATIENT

This is a process that will take a while, but you will get better and faster at identifying the triggers.
